Anybody Can Speak Precisely!
Collecting your thoughts and expressing them clearly is much easier if you know the right words to use.
Read more books and articles with substance (and less mindless pap) and you’ll be on your way to learning the right words. Just be careful you don’t pronounce something incorrectly in your head, and then speak that way in public. People will think you’re ignorant.
There was an instance on a radio talk show when a man called in and mispronounced a word. You could’ve sworn Springer hit the radio airwaves as the guest relentlessly badgered the caller about his mispronunciation. It was awkward, to say the least. And you definitely don’t want to be initiating awkward moments while trying to drum up business.
Pronunciations do vary depending on your locale, so you could just say that’s how it’s pronounced where you’re from. However, most people with at least a high school education know the few valid ways to pronounce these words.
That is why proper pronunciation can be learned by listening to people who are smart. An alternative solution would be to listen to podcasts on the Internet, or if you’re a traditionalist like me, those educational cassettes are not passe by any means.
Some people who call themselves well-read tend to mispronounce words they do not actually hear. That is why I recommend Dictionary.com as the best place to listen to those wonderful new words. They have a pronunciation guide, and, if you want to Speak Precisely, you can sign up for their premium service. Learn the proper pronunciation just by clicking on the word – easy as pie!
At any rate, just make sure you know how the word is pronounced and what it means, before you use it. Nothing sounds worse than someone using big words out of context. There’s nothing wrong with using big words, though, as long as you’re using them correctly.
If the occasion calls for it, though, you want to be keeping it short and sweet and saving the big words for another time. Don’t turn a business deal into a urinating contest with needless use of big words. Only use a bigger word if it’s the only word available to express exactly what you mean. Most people have very small vocabularies, and will tune you out if you start talking over their heads.
Now if you are talking with specialists in the trade, jargon can be helpful. This can save time. You might as well be speaking Greek if you try pulling off a stunt like speaking jargon outside the industry you deal with. Visit message boards specific to your industry or read their journals to learn more of the jargon that is used in your line of business.
Speaking Precisely is not rocket science. Just use the right word at the right time. And with added experience comes added knowledge.

Improve Your Speaking Skills With These Seven Dynamite Tips
Really, how good-looking are you as a speaker? Nah, we’re not asking if you’re a regular Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie, we’re asking about how well you can win clients and other business entities over with your speaking skills. So if you are looking for some of the secrets of the trade, this here speakers bureau head can show you these secrets – here are just seven of them.
Does Your Presentation Pique A Client’s Interest? It has to be something productive and useful for your target audience. A few quick tips when actually speaking would include your voice (you want Barry White, not Barry Gibb – in other words, keep it LOW), your personality (pleasing, natch), your inflection (modify it as required) and your vocabulary. (know when and when not to use big words.)
Connect To The Audience. You would most likely not be speaking if your audience did not have any pressing concerns. Tug on the audience’s heart strings and do not make them think needlessly.
Exude Passion. Do you see meaning in what you do? Carve your own identity with passion and find something that you excel in.
Network With Other Speakers. Make sure you are networking with a group of at least fifty other speakers. They become your referral sources. Off the record, I can tell you that I am part of the National Speakers Association, which boasts a four thousand-strong membership and regularly holds seminars locally that could help you enhance your marketing skills. Call 480-968-2552 (Arizona)
Selling Products. Use media forms old and new to etch a larger presence – book or e-book, audio cassette or podcast, VHS tape or DVD. Having products will catapult your speaking career and make you more valuable to your clients. This “passive” income is like having frosting on the cake.
The Value of Value Added. A value added speaker is more than just another speaker. You want to be first to enter the building and the last to leave whenever you have a presentation – you want to be “up in their grille” to use a newfangled term, but in a good way, offering your consultation services and being engaging with the audience before and after the presentation.
Enlisting A Coach. I’m sure a lot of you like sports – I like football, and watching Monday Night Football reminds me that behind these phenomenal athletes’ success are men whose job is to make them into better athletes. Tom Brady would probably be some random schmoe from San Mateo, CA with no supermodel wife, and there would be no Super Bowl rings for the Patriots if not for Bill Belichick, their masterful COACH and mentor.

The Benefits Of Public Speaking
Causing men’s hands to go clammy and their hearts to pound like a kettledrum is the mere thought of speaking before the audience and this is the case for most people. Statistics show that people fear public speaking more than they do their own deaths. For the majority, it shows that people would rather die in silence than take a chance to speak their minds in society. Could it be conformity or the fear of saying something irrelevant?
Rather than the attempt to do a better job, the importance in public speaking lies in the fact that we are social organisms which means the ability to get your message across in the right way will do more good for you. It is virtually useless to hunker down faithfully to work if the boss does not even notice it.
The importance of public speaking is that it is inevitable. Sooner or later, you will be forced to enter the arena and speak to a sea of eyes and ears. It would always be better to meet that challenge on your terms before that happens.
Here are some points you can think about.
Career. People at work who can communicate better go up the ladder faster. Hiring people with public speaking and communication skills is what employers prefer to do. Not only does speaking with your colleagues put them at ease about you, it also helps you get the job done faster and you are able to get what you want done a lot more easier.
Mental effects. You feel better about yourself. Successfully speaking before a live, listening audience improves your self-confidence, poise, character and sense of fun. You become less self-conscious, nervous, and can control higher levels of stress. This does not mean you won’t make mistakes. Expect to make mistakes the first few times; learn from them, and keep on going. The paralyzing fear of speaking to a large audience will be a thing of the past if you are consistent.
Your opportunities. Having a positive impact on all aspects of your life is public speaking. In your former life, being able to speak publicly will open up new opportunities unimagined. Besides interacting with more people of the opposite sex, you will also find yourself to be more eager when it comes to participating in causes you sincerely believe in. You will find yourself assertively asking questions to clear up a problem, take the lead in a cause, or calmly explain a thorny situation without losing it. Public speaking therefore has an exponential effect on your life.
Public speaking is an essential addition to the human repertoire. Technical knowledge is just as vital, but the ability to speak well takes your abilities and talents beyond the borders of your own skin and into the hearts and minds of others.

Public Speaking – How To Be A Public Speaker
Observe that the title does NOT say: how to become a public speaker, but how to BE one. That doesn’t mean that everyone has to enter it as a profession. But, as with anything done effectively, it takes a certain style to be a good public speaker. Fortunately, that style can be developed through a number of methods that nearly anyone can learn.
The first step is to have something to say that is worth hearing. But what that may be depends on two factors: the material and your audience. Just about any topic is worth exploring, but not necessarily with every audience. A group of mothers may be interested in foreign currency exchange, but the odds are against you. Unless, of course, you can talk about it in a way that engages their personal interests.
That suggests the second important point. The way a topic is treated is as important as the topic itself. Many public speakers will use humor as a method of livening up a talk. That’s a great way to go about it. Everyone enjoys a good joke or an amusing story. But, for truly effective public speaking, the humor is more than just a means for getting a laugh. It’s a way of bringing out an essential aspect of the topic in an engaging way.
But what is it to be engaging?
It means to create an interest for the audience in what you have to say, and you the speaker. That doesn’t mean public speaking is a vanity parade though that may be true of many political figures. But, as with a good novel or movie, the audience members should be on the edge of their chairs waiting to find out where the scene is going. They have to want to hear what’s being said now and how the story will develop. They have to want to get to the end to find out how it all turns out.
That can be a demanding goal. But it is made easier by observing how the pros do it.
It isn’t always feasible to listen to a number of public speakers before launching your first speech (though it would help). But you can and probably have watched a number of movies and TV shows. Pay careful attention to how the actors draw you in. Note a gesture or a look that makes you want to continue to watch the show rather than get up and get a snack. Putting on a performance is an important part of public speaking.
But the actors are not doing it all on their own. They are following the director’s instructions as guided by the script. You’ll usually have to be your own director and screenwriter. But, then, that’s part of the fun of public speaking: writing the speech.
Just as with the ‘performance’, observe how the TV show’s writers draw you in and make you want to know what happens next. Incorporate drama through describing an interesting setting with characters that endure risk and conflict. Resolve the ‘story’ in unexpected but satisfying ways.
Tailor your public speaking style and content to your audiences’ interests and you’ll have them listening for as long as you want.

The Future of Advertising
What’s in store in advertising in the future? It’s all about creating interactive marketing tools for your business, as well as the addition of new and innovative ‘Internet-based social media’ in your marketing efforts. This goes to show that the traditional color printing that has been so popular for many years will take a back seat when it comes to advertising campaigns.
And it’s all about having a positive response from your target audience. Interactivity is all about that concept. What makes your browsers satisfied means engaging them in experiences that evoke good memories for your clients. The more your interactive marketing gets inviting, the better it is for your target audience to hand over a positive response to your message.
So what else should we expect in the interactive advertising campaign?
There’s the use of entertainment for one thing. Website developers and marketers are looking at the advantages of creating a site that not only offers more information than you could think of, but also entertaining to boot. Not only do you get noticed and provide excitement to your target audience, more importantly, you are able to connect with them on more personal level. Hence, expert and smart advertisers use the interactive media to create that engaging relationship with their customers and prospects.
Some of the media vehicles that can help you market your business interactively include blogs, podcasts, online videos, and advergames. Along with these interactive media, marketers have been combining them with traditional media models such as your color printing ads to create that distinction and recognition in their target audience.
Let’s take a look at some of the interactive media vehicles:
Blogs The idea behind a blog is that you are able to tell your story and your opinions, as well as invite viewers to comment on your story. There are many blogs online. In fact, many blogs are able to provide the opportunity for many business owners to interact with their consumers and pool ideas to make their products even more effective. This is what makes blogs so popular – customers are actually able to give their two cent’s worth to enhance the product they love or the service they just viewed online. All in all, it provides both clients and technology- minded people the satisfaction of being able to participate in such forums.
Podcasts / Videos Podcasts and online videos are very entertaining as they are able to provide highly entertaining commercials to demonstrate a product or service or even tell an engaging story that affects the emotions of your consumers. It provides a level of empathy among your customers for your business. YouTube and Google Video are just two of the most popular sites that help you attract attention and interest in your message, not to mention that they generate traffic to your business.
This is the bottom line: utilizing interactive media to increase your market share increases your chances of getting a bigger piece of the market pie. By being closer to your customers via your interactive vehicles can go a long way in helping you build your brand and get you the leads you need to increase your sales and profits.

Public Speaking – Using Audio-Visual Aids In Public Speaking
One of the best ways to liven up even an already very good public speech is to add audio-visual aids. A short clip from another speech or a brief video (with or without sound) can often convey the message in essential form.
Sound and images can be used in many, many ways.
A short video can be used to introduce the topic that the speaker intends to discuss. He or she can then go on to analyze it in detail, flesh out the theme or expand on the subject of the clip. That gets your audience involved immediately. Provided, of course, that the clip itself is interesting and well done.
The video can, for example, be a short segment of a news broadcast showing how tin makes its way from the mine to a grocery store shelf. It can portray the construction of an airplane at 100 times normal speed or in a series of quick photos. It can show melting Arctic ice for a discussion of environmental issues. In short, it can cover any topic just as your speech can.
Audio and video lend an air of expertise to your talk. You acquire by association some of the prestige attached to the clip. At the very least, you show your ability to choose quality material. That sets up the expectation that your speech will be of similar tone and quality.
Of course, for that to be effective the clip has to be well done or appropriate. Even an audio or video clip containing errors can be a useful jumping off point. You can use it to demonstrate the sorts of mistakes that some people can make, then point out how to avoid being taken in. You can use it to show what the correct story is.
Static photos or images can be a powerful public speaking aid, too. They’re much more common, so the speaker has to take care not to overuse them. Some speakers will rely too much on a Powerpoint presentation to demonstrate graphs of figures. That makes the images the presenter, not you.
But used correctly, a good graph or a telling photo can be a terrific adjunct to a well-made point. Nothing persuades like an accurate set of data showing a trend. And there’s no better way to show that trend than the traditional line graph.
Take care not to attempt to mislead the audience or bamboozle them with alleged facts and figures, though. Don’t draw hasty or questionable conclusions from the slide. There will always be some expert in the audience ready to trip you up. Remember, the audience can see the image as well as you. That’s the whole point of showing it. They will often draw their own conclusion. You want that conclusion to be the one you have drawn.
The list of possible content is endless. Just be sure that any supplemental aids are just that, desserts and not the main course.
Have you used a teleprompter for a speech that disappointed you with cheap parts and poor workmanship? Fortune 500 companies around the world choose teleprompter hardware from TelmaxTeleprompters.com because of their quality and affordability!
What is the Fear of Public Speaking?
Also commonly referred to as public speaking phobia, public speaking fear, public speaking anxiety, presentation anxiety, performance anxiety, performance nerves or stage fright. In many surveys, the fear of public speaking is often ranked as the number one fear. Surprisingly many people will rank the fear of public speaking higher than the fear of death.
Someone experiencing public speaking anxiety is feeling the effects of the fight or flight response. The fight or flight response is our mind and bodies natural response to a perceived threat. The perceived threat itself may be physical or psychological in nature. (e.g. making a scene, looking foolish, not being liked or accepted, appearing weak, potential physical harm etc.) When it is activated, hormones are released into the body to enable us to either deal with or escape from the dangerous situation.
The effects of the fight or flight response include an increase in our heart rate to pump blood faster to the lungs, muscles and brain. We breath more rapidly to increase our oxygen levels, our muscles tense ready for action and many functions not necessary for fighting or escaping, such as digestion or reproduction, slow or stop.
When people experience a fear of public speaking they commonly experience some of the following symptoms: excessive sweating, breathing difficulties, rapid heart rate, tingling, tightening of the throat, frequent need to urinate, feeling light-headed, ‘going-blank’, trembling, stammering, digestive problems, sense of inadequacy or inferiority.
The fear of public speaking is an anxiety, and like all anxieties it ultimately begins with your thoughts about the current or possible future situations. You may be aware of these thoughts, but often they are just outside our conscious awareness. If your mind perceives a threat then it triggers the release of the various stress hormones into the body which produces the symptoms you experience.
We react in much the same way, whether we are experiencing a real situation or just thinking about it. Simply thinking negatively about a future situation such as a presentation, performance or event is enough to to trigger the fight or flight response.
Anxiety functions in such a way that makes it almost impossible to fight head on. Most people desperately fight it by trying in vain to control and manage the symptoms. In fact the more you try to control the anxiety symptoms, the worse they often get! The Chinese proverb “The tree that does not bend with the wind will be broken by the wind”, quite neatly illustrates the problem with this approach. One obvious solution is not to rigidly control the symptoms, but to focus on flowing with them and change what’s actually causing them.
As anxiety starts with your negative thoughts about a situation, the most logical place to start making changes is with those problematic thoughts. Change those thoughts so that you stop perceiving the situation as a threat and the anxiety goes away. This is actually a much easier and quicker process that you might think, and any experienced psychotherapist should be able to help.
Common situations which can trigger fear of public speaking and stage fright can include any situation where you become the centre of attention and feel you are being judged negatively: presentations, acting auditions and performances, musical performances, meetings, interviews, wedding speeches, exams, speaking on the telephone (particularly when in front of others).
